TIMBERWOLVES VOLLEYBALL TAKES THIRD PLACE

AT NWAACC CHAMPIONSHIPS

On the last night of NWAACC volleyball competition for 2009, our season of memories came to a close. It was a season filled with tremendous success and at the end, two near-misses. The closest miss? Our final contest, where a trip to the championship match...to play East Region opponent Spokane...slipped away by just 2 points in a 14-16 tie-breaker loss. Though it was clearly not our goal...that loss gave us the third place trophy! We completed the season with 41 wins, the most of any team in the entire NWAACC!

The 2009 T-Wolves were a wonderful group of young ladies who battled like hardened veterans of many seasons together. All told, they won five trophies in tournament play this season: 2nd place at the Walla Walla Crossover, 1st at the Skagit CC Crossover, 2nd at the Dorian Harris Tournament, the East Region Championship and the Third Place at the NWAACC Championships.

At the NWAACCs our team received additional recognition: Alisha Crane was voted to the ALL-NWAACC 1st team, Brianna Claassen and Kristen Garlie were voted to the All-NWAACC 2nd Team and NWAACC TOURNAMENT coach of the year was Dave Baty.

We are so proud to see our team achieve what, at the start of the year, no-one (except us!) thought we could.  We have already begun preparing for next year!

Blue Mountain Completes Regular Season with Sweep of Yakima Valley

The Blue Mountain Timberwolves finished a story-book regular season in style at the McCrae Activity Center on Veteran's Day, November 11. Our four Sophomores were recognized: Shasta Vogler, Cassie Funke, Kelsey Jensen and Brianna Claassen. The scores over Yakima were 25-17, 25-20 and 25-15.

The T-Wolves play in the NWAACC Championships at Mt Hood CC beginning Thursday, at 4:30 PM VS Clackamas CC.

Timberwolves Clinch East Region Title with three game sweep over NWAACC #3 Spokane CC.

The Blue Mountain Community College Volleyball team has done what no other team from BMCC has ever done inthe NWAACC - Winning an East Region Title. Against Spokane CC -the #4 team in the NWAACC - the Wolves reached the top of the region with a convincing 25-21, 25-10, 25-13 win. This secures the #1 seed from the East Region for the Wolves. With only one regular season match remaining, BMCC is 12-1 in the region and 36-6 overall, currently ranked #2 in the NWAACC.

Blue Mountain takes three from Columbia Basin CC.

The Timberwolves went to Pasco and overcame a determined group of CBC Hawks, but it took 4 games to complete it. The scores were 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19.

Timberwolves bounce back on Treasure Valley - after first set loss - to win in four sets

The Blue Mountain Timberwolves had a rare first set loss (second in 40 matches) and bounced back to defeat the Chukkars of Treasure Valley CC. 20-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18. The Wolves had a great passing match and are now 10-1 in league, 34-6 overall.

Dorian Haris Classic Volleyball Tournament at Mt. Hood CC

The T-Wolves started the two day tournament against a familiar opponent - Chemeketa CC. This was the third time this season for both teams to play. The Wolves remain undefeated against CCC, winning the match in three  straight - 25-11, 25-21, 25-14. This match was highlighted by superior passing from Cassie Funke, Rebecca Haight and Shasta Vogler.

In the second game the Wolves played Green River CC for the first time. Blue Mountain again swept an opponent played for the first time in three games: 25-19, 25-21, 25-11. This win puts the overall record of the Wolves at 31-5. We start championship bracket play tomorrow at 11:00AM.

Day 2 -  The Wolves started the day with Outside Hitter KC Schmit ont he bench after a slight concussion in yesterday's match against Green River...and  Freshman Sydney Bloom stepped up to play the rest of the match and the day doing a great job. The Wolves roll over NWAACC #4 team Bellevue in three straight: 25-12, 25-18, 25-14. Next up in the semi final was Lower Columbia. Blue Mountain wins again in four: 25-7, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23. In the Championship the Wolves played the host team, Mt. Hood. Starting well, the Wolves took game one and controlled tempo well at 25-19. But Mt Hood stepped up their game and we did not respond as we normally do. The result was a four set loss and second place finish in the tournament.  This was just the second loss in the last 34 days for the Timberwolves. The Wolves are a school best 33-6.

Blue Mountain outlasts Wenatchee in five games

The T-Wolves started the match with solid play but the pressure of wenatchee cc - the best serving team in the region - was problematic for the Wolves. The match took five games and was marred by hitting errors of the T-Wolves - there were 28. However, after starting the final set down 0-3...much the same as in Spokane four days ago - the Wolves took over. Going on a 15-7 run to finish the match, the Wolves step up and worked hard to avoid another slip up against this Wenatchee team.

Timberwolves prevaill at Spokane

In what was a very anticipated match-up between the two leading teams in the East Region, the Wolves of Blue Mountain won a five set thriller at Spokane: 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 23-25 and 15-6.  This being a high pressure match, both teams played well and not so well at times. However, when the fifth and final set arrived, the T-Wolves came out aggressive and won going away from the Spokane Bigfoots.

Timberwolves win at Big Bend Community College in three sets

The T-Wolves started very hot and then cruised to another straight sets victory at Moses Lake today, defeating Big Bend CC 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21. Passing was very accurate tonight as the "Tri-Line" has become very proficient in the last few matches. This win puts the T-Wolves at 27-5 and 7-1.

T-Wolves continue strong play with a non-league 3 set win @ Walla Walla University

In what could have easlily been a let-down match for Blue Mountain, the Wolves took care of business again with a straight sets victory over Walla Walla. 25-15, 25-23 and 25-14 were the scores. Briana Claassen led a balanced attack by distributing the volleyball very well. Alisha Crane, Sydney Bloom and Rebecca Haight had 9 kills each, and Kelsey Jensen added another 6. But it was the gutsy back row play of sophomore captain Cassie Funke in game two that really put us over the top. Cassie hit the floor hard for two "GAMEBREAKER" saves that kept us in the second game...and propelled us to the win. Great job by everyone, while the Wolves improve to a school record 26-5.

Timberwolves win at Skagit

The first championship at Blue Mountain since what seemed like forever was won this weekend at Skagit Valley Community College. The short handed BMCC team played well and bounced back strong from a pool play loss to Whatcom CC and dominated Centralia CC 25-11 and 25-9. Once championship bracket play began and matches were best three games out of five...the Wolves went to Work. Allowing no opponent more than 20 points, BMCC swept the bracket in 3 matches, and 9 sets (scores are listed above). Clackamas CC in the quarterfinal, Yakima in the semi-final and the host team Skagit fell in straight sets to a determined Blue Mountain team with just 9 dressed players. Kelsey Jensen and Alisha Crane were voted to the tournament all star team and Hana Burton was voted MVP.

Timberwolves in three over Walla Walla CC

Despite having only nine players suit up for the match, Blue Mountain was still able to hold off a determined team from Walla Walla CC. Many great efforts turned in tonite: Rebecca Haight 15 Kills, 2 errors and a .371 hitting percentage(and passed a 2.53)... Kelsey Jensen played great passing and defense...Sydney Bloom played the match at O1 and was great too...Alisha Crane blocked like a thundercrunch time and time again. Cassie Funke passed 2.65 as Libero and captain. Great win in front of an active home crowd.

Timberwolves in three over Yakima Valley CC

The Wolves continued their strong play in the NWAACC East region and won three sets at Yakima Valley. 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18. This match featured the aggressive play of both middle blockers, Kristen Garlie and Alisha Crane they combined to hit for 15 kills on 26 attempts with only one hitting error. Soph. Libero Cassie Funke led the defensive effort with a 2.51/3.0 passing average. Garile's hitting line = 9K-0e-19att for a .556 average... while Crane hit .500 6K-1e-10att - excellent work attacking the ball ladies!

Timberwolves continue aggressive play against Columbia Basin - winning in three games.

The T-Wolves found their swing again and had their most productive hitting match of the season. The wolves hit .346 as a team tonite with 39 kills on 78 attempts. KC Schmit led the way with the best night of the season: 12 kills on 24 attempts with one hitting error - thats a sick .458 hitting percentage. Rebecca Haight had 8 kills, Kristen Garlie had 6, and Alisha Crane had 4. Bri Claassen set us up with 27 assists and had 3 blocks. A nice match for the home team.

T-Wolves return to aggressive volleyball and win at Treasure Valley CC.

The Blue Mountain Timberwolves found their stride at TVCC with a four game win. 25-19, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-16 were the scores. KC Schmit and Rebecca Haight led the way with 16 and 10 kills respectively. Alisha Crane had a strong match as well as Kelsey Jenson. Briana Claassen continues to be the best setter in the region.

Unforced errors doom T-Wolves at Wenatchee

The Timberwolves found out at Wenatchee that playing non-sharp volleyball will result in a bad outcome. Still, the Wolves were able to climb out of a 7-2 hole in game five to tie at 13...but did not execute at the end. Scores: 25-15, 21-25, 21-25, 25-13, 13-15.

WOLVES OVER BIG BEND IN THREE GAMES

The Timberwolves Volleyball team defeated Big Bend CC today in three games: 25-17, 25-13 and 25-19. The Wolves were paced by Rebecca Haight's 8 kills on 17 attempts for a sparkling .412 hitting percentage.  KC Schmit had 8 kills and Alisha Crane added 7 kills, with two that were most impressive.

Walla Walla Crossover results

The T-Wolves finished in second at the Walla Walla Crossover today. The marquee match of the tournament was Tacoma CC vs Blue Mountain. The Wolves took Tacoma in three straight at Spokane two weeks ago, but today - without starting MB Kristin Garlie - the Wolves came up just short. 25-21, 20-25 and 18-20. For the tournament the Wolves were 5-1..and our All-Tournament players were Cassie Funke, KC Schmit and Rebecca Haight.

This ends a long week of competition and traveling where the Wolves go 8-2. We start the heart of our East Region schedule this Wednesday with a home game vs Big Bend CC.

GREAT JOB LADIES!
